Creating customer value with Coiled Tubing Drilling:
Customer Challenge
Our customer wanted to re-enter a series of wells on a mature producing property. After re-entry they wanted to kickoff through the old well bores, and directionally drill horizontal laterals through low pressure mature reservoirs - which would require 2 phase drilling fluid.
IPS Solution
IPS engineers proposed a fit for purpose CT Drilling Unit designed optimized for the client's particular operation. This unit was manned by some of the industry's most experienced crews, who were familiar with the local basin requirements.
Customer Value
- Faster Mob/Demob than a conventional rig
- Faster trip times than conventional rigs
- Continuous circulation during tripping - better hole cleaning and penetration
- Two phase drilling fluid was used which resulted in faster penetration rates
- E-Coil was used which provided directional control data transfer in two-phase environment
- Receptivity tool provided oil/water contact recognition while drilling
- The unit provided a smaller footprint than previous operations
- Less site preparation and remediation than a conventional drilling operation
|
Result
- The unit went from plan to drilling in 2 weeks
- 10 horizontal wells were successfully and safely drilled
- The drilling time was reduced from 14 days an average of 7 days/well
- Costs were reduced by 25% compared to conventional drilling

Creating customer value - HPHT frac plug removal:
Customer Challenge
Our customer wanted to drill out and remove post fracturing composite plugs safely and more efficiently than had been possible in the past. The wells in question were high pressure and high temperature which warranted a new approach.
IPS Solution
IPS designed and engineered 2 new CT strings that were custom built for the application. We followed through with engineering and special projects support on location for the operation.
Customer Value and Result
The composite plugs were safely and efficiently removed by the IPS team and CT equipment. The entire operation took 24 hours to complete, versus an estimated one week for the conventional operation.
